Bill's Diary Part Eight - 1941 and Notes
January 8th
Rumour of us going to France in the near future. Also rumour of Mussolini abdicating. Talk of skirmish with Russia. Peace proposals rejected by Germany.
February 21st
A big day in my personal life. I got my first letter. Everything alright at home.
We left our new camp for the old one. It is hellishly cold at present. It's snowing and we are bailing out water. I wonder of the German prisoners in England are doing the same?
At this point Bill's diary ends and there are no more diary entries but there are some other bits and pieces written in the back including lyrics to some of his favourite songs.
SAILING HOME WITH THE TIDE
Sailing home with the tide of the river as the winds sets her sails all a quiver .
On the quay I shall see someone waiting.
And I know she will be waiting for me.
Through the voice of the storm I have met her.
Calling me calling me from afar.
Sailing home with the tide of the river.
Home home to the one I love.
CUBAN LOVE SONG
Life is filled with glory now that I know this love was meant to be.
Each kiss tells the story while my heart sighs and sings its melody.
I love you that's what my heart is saying.
While every breeze is playing our Cuban love song
I love you for all the joys you brought me
The lovely night you taught me our Cuban love song.
One melody will always thrill my heart.
One kiss will cheer me when we are far apart dear one
I love you with such a tender passion that only you could fashion, our Cuban love song.
Another note from Bill.
