Bill O'Callaghan Timeline

Above left is a photograph of Bill O'Callaghan on the right with neighbour Roy Larner. Bill lived at 28 Sandy Lane, Dereham and Roy at 29 Sandy Lane.

Major events in Bill O'Callaghan's life:

1914 (March 6th)        Born in Brentford, London to Hugh Ashby and Edith Mary O'Callaghan
Early 1920s                  Moves with family to Norfolk
1921 (June 17th)          Birth of sister Rhoda Pearl in Dereham
1930                               Enlists in Territorial Army
1932                               Joins the regular army at the age of 18. Serves in Gibralter during Spanish Civil War
1939                              Goes to France as part of the British Expeditionary Force
1940 (May)                  Survives the Massacre of Le Paradis
1940-1945                    Prisoner of War in a number of camps (mainly Poland). Involved in 1,000 mile trek
1945 (July 14th)          Marries Edith Hannah Warren                              
1946 (Jan 18th)          Discharged from the forces and starts work for Hobbies of Dereham
1946 (June 27th)        Son Dennis born
​1948 (Oct)                   Gives evidence at the trial of Fritz Knoechlein
1953 (Dec 7th)            Daughter Heather born
1965                              Breaks spine, pelvis and ribs in a works accident
1968                              Joins Metamec
1971                               Joins Crane Fruehauf
​1975 (Nov 26th)          Dies in West Norwich Hospital
