The O'Callaghan Service
Every year a remembrance service is held at William O’Callaghan Place, Becclesgate, Dereham, NR19 2BU on the nearest Sunday morning to the massacre date of 27th May, usually at 11.15 am.
It is always a short service remembering with gratitude and thanksgiving those men of The 2nd Battalion The Royal Norfolks, The 1st Battalion The Royal Scots and other units who, on 27th May 1940, in the cause of peace and in the service of their fellow men, died for their country in the defence of Le Paradis.
The services also remember the lives of Bill O’Callaghan and Bert Pooley, who, through the Grace of God, survived the Le Paradis atrocity to ensure justice for those who died, thereby guaranteeing their sacrifice was not in vain.
Below are some photographs from the 2015, 2016 and 2017 services.
