Private Frank Leonard Chevis
Private 5770857 Frank Leonard Chevis
Royal Norfolk Regiment
Died 27th May, 1940
Frank's Great Niece Katherine Marks contacted us and provided the photograph at the top of this page. Katherine said:
"My grandmother, Edith Alice Elizabeth Chevis', youngest brother was Frank Leonard Chevis from 2nd Battallion, Royal Norfolk Regiment. She knew her brother had died in France but never knew the circumstances. Sadly she passed away in 2005. After she died I decided to contact the CWWGC to see if we could find out exactly what had happened to him. It was a huge shock and probably just as well she didn’t know the exact circumstances.
"I decided to take my husband and son over to Le Paradis in 2014 during the May half term. We visited Frank’s grave behind the little church of Le Paradis and laid a Royal Legion poppy wreath. He has a lovely spot at the end, overlooking beautiful fields and countryside.
"Frank was nineteen years old when he died at the hands of the SS. We have a photograph of Frank displayed at home which sits on the mantelpiece so we never forget him and what he did for our freedom."
