Memorial in Norfolk - Photographic Gallery
In May, 2021, dreams of having a permanent memorial in Norfolk to the 97 soldiers who lost their lives at Le Paradis became a reality.
A short dedication service marked the official unveiling of the memorial in Norwich Cathedral Close. The memorial was funded through grants and personal donations. It can be found in a bay close to the west door of the Cathedral and also close to the memorial to World War One heroine Edith Cavell.
The wording on the memorial is:
"To the memory of the 97 soldiers who died in the massacre on 27th May 1940 at Le Paradis Northern France.
These soldiers were drawn from 2nd Battalion the Royal Norfolk Regiment 1st Battalion the Royal Scots and other British expeditionary force units."
The dedication service was led by the Dean of Norwich Cathedral, the Very Rev Jane Hedges, and Canon Aidan Platten. It was attended by trustees of the Le Paradis Memorial Appeal, members of Le Paradis Commemoration Group and a number of supporters.

The photographs below show how work on the memorial progressed under the watchful eye of master letter cutter Lida Kindersley at her Cambridge workshop.
In 2023 a special memorial service was held around the new memorial. You can view photographs of this event by clicking here.
